History

Self Help, Inc. was founded June 21, 1965, during President Johnson’s “War on Poverty.”  We currently serve residents in 31 cities and towns located in Plymouth, Bristol, and Norfolk counties.

Each year, we serve over 15,000 households, providing programs and services designed to meet the most pressing needs of residents. Self Help has a history rich in community involvement and prompting positive change in families and communities. Our Head Start Program has been with us since 1965, designed to help break the cycle of poverty by providing new generations of preschool children in low-income families with a comprehensive program to support their emotional, social, health, nutritional and psychological needs.
