- Pre-employment Skills Workshops
- Job Fairs in local communities
- 6 week Computer Course on sliding fee scale

NEIGHBORHOOD STABILIZATION
PROGRAM
Through a grant from the City of Brockton’s Building a Better Brockton, SHI is assisting individuals interested in purchasing multi-family housing in targeted areas of the city with a variety of supports and assistance including access to low interest mortgage loans and no/reduced cost housing rehab programs. Additionally, low to moderate income tenants may participate in a tenant educational and financial literacy program that could make them eligible for the security deposit and last month’ s rent to move into one of the program’s multi-family apartments.

A CDC is committed to making dreams of long term economic stability come true. Whether one dreams of owning a home, sustaining affordable homeownership, starting or expanding a business, or acquiring financial management skills, we can help make one’s dream a reality. We are currently seeking Brockton residents to join the new CDC.

VITA TAX PROGRAM

Self Help’s VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program provides free tax preparation service and helps families apply for their EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit) that could result in hundreds of extra dollars for a family. This Program operates during the tax season at the SHI Healthy Housing and Community Resource Center, 142 Crescent St., Brockton. It is open to all low to moderate income residents that reside in the SHI service area.

A source of loans and grants to property owners in Southeastern Massachusetts to abate lead hazards in their residential property (either single family or rental unit) where at least one child under age 6 resides in the property to be abated. The program offers grants, at market rate, low or no interest loans, and deferred loans for up to half the cost of deleading.

LEAD ACTION BROCKTON
A coalition formed by Self Help of local organizations concerned with housing, health, children and/or cultural/language issues to assist the Massachusetts DPH Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention program meet its goal of ending childhood lead poisoning. Efforts focus on high risk neighborhoods and populations in Brockton.

*Education and information on Healthy Home techniques and interventions for a safer and healthier home.
*Access to medical services and support for children diagnosed or at-risk of environmentally related diseases and injuries.
