The Fuel Assistance Program begins November 1st and ends on April 31st. It provides assistance with heating costs to over 9,000 households annually in the Self Help service area.

Eligibility for the program is based on the following income guidelines. This year those households at 200% of poverty will have access to assistance. It is our hope that the program will serve even more households in need of heating assistance.

Fuel Assistance works closely with the Weatherization and HEART-WAP programs in coordinating efforts to establish eligibility for Weatherization and HEART-WAP Programs.

Fuel Assistance staff are proud of the effort extened on behalf of the clients in working with various social service agencies in obtaining services that may be needed by our clients.

Self Help continues to work in conjunction with Ctiizens Energy Corportation (CEC) in implementing the CEC Energy Program which allows eligibile households to receive a reduced price oil delivery. Households are responsible to pay one-half the "going rate" per gallon of oil. With the anticipated increase in oil prices, this will be an important program for our clients who have expended all Fuel Assistance benefits.

Self Help works with volunteer agencies within our service area in providing a local intake site for those who are interested in applying for Fuel Assistance and find it more convenient to apply in their own community.
